Himba women rest under a tree and apply red ochre paint to each other's hair on the dry bank of the Khumib river in North Eastern Namibia. The Himba use the preparation and application of Red Ochre paint for social cohesion. Making the paint, applying the paint is one of the things that cements social bonds, binds the tribe together. Makes it stronger. Presumably all our ancestors did the same thing 100,000 years ago on the southern coast of Africa at places like Blombos Cave. .
